FBI Agents Arrest Bitzlato Founder in Miami

Departments of Justice and Treasury disrupt China-based cryptocurrency.

Justice Department officials announced the arrest of Anatoly Legkodymov, the founder of the cryptocurrency exchange company Bitzlato. The FBI made the arrest in Miami, Florida, through information gathered mutually by the Departments of Justice and Treasury, and French law enforcement. Bitzlato is a China-based company and is notorious for its connections to darknet criminal activities worth hundreds of millions of dollars.

“It’s no secret that cybercriminals rely on those bad actors to launder their criminal proceeds from cryptocurrency into fiat currency,” said Deputy Attorney General Lisa Monaco. “Today, thanks to a coordinated international effort, Justice Department prosecutors and agents have disrupted a busy corner of this criminal ecosystem.”
